22 Peaceful Cottage Designs That Seem Like Taken From A Fairy Tale World

A Calm And Modern Retreat With Echoes Of The Past

Hidden in the center of the old city of Silves, in Portugal, lies Casa Xonar, a contemporary residence that was designed by Studio Arte architecture & design in collaboration with Lusco Fusco Concepts. In a way, it reflects the history of its surroundings while also featuring a unique look. The residence has an all-white exterior which hides a very colorful interior.

One of the main requests and concepts that were taken into consideration when designing this place was privacy. As you can see, there are no huge windows or glass walls that let the interior areas communicate with the exterior.

The owners wanted to leave this mystery and to focus on having a private lifestyle. The interior reflects the same concept. The interior design chosen for this project is a combination of modern and vintage.Modern artwork was used throughout the house in order to emphasize the contrast of styles as well as to add a little color to the rooms.

The boudoir-bedroom has a very romantic interior with Arabic influences and a simple and chic look. It has access to two terraces. There’s also a second floor terrace with luxurious sun loungers and an outdoor kitchen. The views from here are also amazing. The terrace is overlooking the town and the countryside and the sunsets are splendid from here.-Via

Faithful Renovation Of A Waterfront House In Auckland

Renovations don’t always need to mean dramatic changes and unrecognizable structures and designs. Often, we see projects for which the main goal is to preserve the original character and as much of the design as possible. The idea is to make the structure more space-efficient and functional, to bring more light inside but not necessarily to change the style in which it was designed.

In the case of this house located in Auckland, New Zeeland, the project was developed in 2012 by Dorrington Architects. It was a renovation of the existing house and the goal was to preserve many of the original details and features.

The architects wanted to bring in more sunlight and to also emphasize the beautiful waterfront views by taking advantage of the location and orientation of the site. Originally, the house was a double-skin brick bungalow with little connection to the outdoors and its views.

Although it was old, the house was sturdy and had many beautiful traditional details that the owners wanted to preserve. They preferred to renovate the house instead of building a new one just so that they can have this connection with the past and the history of the building. They wanted a contemporary house that would incorporate the existing one and thus a mix of old and new resulted. The house now has 4 blocks linked by a hallway, two of which were newly constructed.-Via

Rustic Country House In Mallorca Featuring British Influences

Located in Mallorca, in the village of Santa Maria del Cami, this beautiful country house is owned by a British couple with two children. They made Mallorca their new home and embraced the landscape and the culture. Still, you can also see some British influences in the interior design of this house.

The residence has large porches from where the owners get to admire the views and the exterior of the house is covered in stone. The arched windows add elegance to the design while the choice of materials and the overall look give this place a rustic charm.

The north side of the house has views of the courtyard while on the left side you can admire Eucalyptus trees and floral arrangements. The cottage has lots of character, especially considering the mix of local and foreign influences.

The cottage harmoniously brings together the two styles, the local and the British one. The building is a reflection of the local architecture while the interior has been decorated to reflect the owner’s history, roots and personality.

The house has a rectangular floor plan and two small stone porches and it integrates into the Mediterranean landscape beautifully. The wooden beams give it a warm and inviting feel and the rest of the materials used further add coziness to the mix.{found on nuevo-estilo}.
